DISCLAIMER - Major spoilers for the anime/manga, “record of ragnarok”
PLOT
I was reading this manga sometime ago, the gods have decided to wipe out humanity. Valkyries suggest a 13 round fight with the best of humanity to decide their fate.
Now I really don’t want to talk about the whole series, the manga was amazing and netflix could have done better with the animation. The animation was terrible for material so good. I have nothing to do with the entire plot. We will be specifically focusing on the fight between Qin shi huang and Hades. Now as per the anime, there is backstory to each fighter. So both hades and Huang had theirs. But what particularly struck a hole in me was Hunang’s Story. And I think it has had an effect on me. This is how the story goes -
Beneath the imposing facade of the proud Emperor Qin Shi Huang lay a complex and tragic history. Held hostage as a child in the state of Zhao, he endured a harsh and solitary existence. However, a glimmer of hope emerged through the maternal affection of Chun Yan, who, among other things, gifted him a blindfold.
Unbeknownst to most, Qin Shi Huang possessed a unique condition: Mirror Touch Synesthesia. This extraordinary ability caused him to physically experience the pain of others, manifesting as painful sensations on his own body. The negative emotions of those around him were reflected in his physical well-being, earning him the grim title of the "Most Cursed Prince."
Far from being a curse, Qin Shi Huang viewed his condition as a gift. It granted him an unparalleled empathy, allowing him to deeply understand the suffering of his people. Moreover, this heightened sensory perception extended to the realm of energy, enabling him to visualize and manipulate the vital force, or Qi, of his opponents.
Harnessing this extraordinary ability, Qin Shi Huang became an unparalleled warrior. He eventually defeated the demonic Chiyou, liberating Ancient China from its tyrannical grip. In this epic battle, he developed a formidable martial art style, named after his foe, composed of five distinct fighting techniques. His power was further amplified by the Divine weapon, Almighty Spaulders, bestowed upon him by the deity Alvitr.
Despite his formidable power and unwavering resolve, Qin Shi Huang's journey was marked by adversity and personal sacrifice. His early life experiences, coupled with his unique condition, shaped him into a complex and multifaceted leader, whose legacy continues to inspire and intrigue.
What happened in fight vs Hades? Although I warned about spoilers, I can’t ruin it! He won though.
And the amount of badassery in that scene when he was obliterating Hades with feeling his own and Hades might and STILL winning made a permanent spot in my heart. So what do we learn?
Absurdity
Let's dive into the existential pool of "meh, whatever."
Kierkegaard, the original emo philosopher, was all about anxiety. Not the kind where you worry about your Wi-Fi going out, but the deep, existential dread of being a tiny speck in a vast, indifferent universe. He suggested that the key to coping with this cosmic panic is to accept your fate, whatever that may be. It’s like being handed a really crappy lottery ticket and deciding to enjoy the thrill of the scratch-off.
Now, Camus, the existential chill pill, took this idea and said, "Yeah, life's absurd, but hey, let's at least have a laugh while we're pushing this rock up a hill." He introduced us to Sisyphus, the mythical dude with the worst workout routine ever. Sisyphus’ life was a never-ending cycle of futility, but Camus argued that finding meaning in the absurd is the true rebellion. It's like being stuck in a never-ending PowerPoint presentation but deciding to do interpretive dance during the data slides.
So, what does this all mean for you, the average Joe or Jane? Well, next time you're stuck in traffic, remember Sisyphus and smile. At least you're not pushing a boulder. When your boss is being a total jerk, channel Kierkegaard and embrace the anxiety as a unique opportunity for spiritual growth. Or, you know, just quit your job.
The point is, life is a cosmic joke, and we're all just punchlines waiting to happen. But instead of crying in the corner, we can choose to laugh at the absurdity of it all. It's like being forced to eat Brussels sprouts: you could complain about it, or you could pretend they're tiny, green meatballs.
Ultimately, the choice is yours. You can be the person who sees life as a relentless uphill battle, or you can be the one who dances while they climb. Just remember, even Sisyphus probably had a good day once in a while. Maybe he discovered a new grip on the rock, or made friends with an ant. Who knows?
So, embrace the absurdity, find humor in the mundane, and remember, it's all going to end in the same way anyway. Might as well enjoy the ride.
Netflix did add a lot of cringe to the series, but when you put two and two together, it wasn’t that bad. Huang did the BEST thing he could have done with his cards and after that, 100 points for the narcissistic personality of his.
Not everything can be put to words, so I will end this one with something I wrote sometime back. -
The stadium was full and the crowds shouting out names,
All this life spent in search of fames.
I could finally yell the arguments I never got to say,
It was the end of it all. The judgement day.
For all the shenanigans all the pain,
I could've been a mushroom thriving after a rain.
The human form the glory the pain,
We made a god. To keep us all sane.
If karma is real how do the numbers workout,
If consciousness is real why doesn't it recur throughout.
I ask all these questions and the air becomes thin,
No answers from outside but a voice within.
How is the mushroom different from us,
It was all the theories that made us digress from thus,
Why will principals be different for us,
Same caricatures all on same bus.
Bury me down and look what I found,
Several mushrooms on my carcass the ouroborus goes round.
For I have choices to offer doom or glee,
Everything is the part of same tapestry.
The fungus the mountain the atoms the skies the seas,
All have existence only as long as I can see.
The drums grew louder and the crowds screamed my name,
The questionnaire had to begin to end the wretched game.
For when he entered I lost my all doubts,
Proving all of us are just busy with silly roundabouts.
May be I got too late to acknowledge what I now see,
The only god that ever existed in these tides of time was me.
Adios!
